Electric Lawn Mower Reviews

Electric lawn mowers come in a variety of styles with multiple options. Our electric lawn mower reviews feature the best corded, cordless, as well as electric riding lawn mowers and automatic mowers.

Electric mowers are appealing as they are eco friendly as well as economical. This wasn’t always the case though. Electric mowers used to be extremely inefficient while also being quite expensive. As technology has progressed, electric mowers are becoming more viable and a favorite among many weekend warriors (they’re not quite good enough yet for mass commercial use, at least not in my opinion).

What are the Advantages of having an Electric Mower?

One of the more obvious reasons why people choose an electric mower is they are eco friendly. They do not emit any harmful pollutants or smelly fumes.

Some electric mowers run on a rechargeable battery. Battery life has been lacking though newer models are quite long lasting. On a full charge most new electric mowers can easily mow the front and back lawn (for an average size property).

Then there is the corded electric mower. I’m not a big fan of corded mowers personally, but they are eco friendly and quite inexpensive. With a corded mower you really have to practice cord management and mowing in specific type patterns to avoid running over the cord.

How much do Electric Lawn Mowers Cost?

As there are variations of electric mowers they vary in cost. For a typical corded mower, you can expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $300. Most cordless electric mowers run in the same price range.

Riding mowers that are battery powered will run you anywhere from $1200 up to $2500. I would not recommend a battery powered riding mower to anyone with hilly terrain or more than a quarter acre of lawn to maintain. They lack power and battery life for these mowers continues to be inefficient.

How long do Electric Mowers Last for?

With proper care and maintenance, most electric mowers will last roughly 10 years. One of the issues I’ve noticed with these mowers however is that replacement parts can be expensive making it almost not worth fixing them if something breaks down.

Is there a Particular Electric Mower you recommend?

As there are various types of electric mowers it’s hard to single out one as being the best. However, I have created a ‘best electric lawn mower’ review that breaks down the best mower for each category. For example, there is a best cordless, best corded, best battery powered riding mower etc. That would be your best place to start. If you’re still struggling finding the right mower feel free to contact me and I’ll do what I can to find what you need.

You can also browse this page as this is a category page for electric lawn mower reviews. Often time’s particular models go out of stock so I try to update each review as often as possible. If in the event a particular mower is no longer available, it will be noted within the review as well as a recommendation for a similar mower.

Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog

Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog 19-Inch 12 amp Electric Mulching Mower with Rear Bag

Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog 19-Inch 12 amp Electric Mulching Mower with Rear Bag With a name like lawn hog you would expect this mower to be a beastly machine that sucks down fuel. The Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog is however a corded electric lawn mower and produces zero emissions. There are many advantages to using an electric mower and the fact that they produce zero emissions is in my opinion the most important factor. There also many advantages to using a corded mower as well as some obvious cons. We’ll get into that in a bit but first let’s look at the technology and features offered on the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog. Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog Features The Black & Decker MM875 certainly is one of the cooler looking electric mowers made by Black & Decker in my opinion. It has a 12 amp mower and a 19 inch cutting deck width. The Lawn Hog is designed to manage lawns up to a ¼ acre in size. Comfort features are important on any mower. The Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog can easily be adjusted making it comfortable to operate. Cutting height can also be easily adjusted ranging from 1 ¼ to 3 ½ inches. As far as grass management, you can either bag clippings or mulch. Mulching provides much needed nutrients to keep your lawn looking healthy and can protect your lawn against disease and even reduce the amount of water needed to flourish! Corded Vs. Cordless I’m going to try to be as unbiased as possible as honestly I’m not a big fan of corded mowers. Don’t get me wrong, I love electric mowers but I prefer those that can be charged and operate on an interchangeable battery system such as the Black & Decker CM1936. Okay, so there are of course some advantages to using a corded mower even over a battery powered mower. The first being you don’t have to worry about charging. You also don’t have to worry about running out of power or having the mower lag due to insufficient power. The Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog provides a consistent cut from start to finish. As far as the cons, a corded mower is limited as to how far away from an outlet you can mow. The Lawn Hog can mow up to a 100 feet radius from an outlet. In my opinion this limitation can be a nuisance but you could always of course plug in a longer extension cord. Another downfall to using a corded mower is cord management. I don’t care how good a mower is or the technology used to try and keep the cord out of the way, it’s still there and can still be annoying. Using a corded mower requires some though regarding mowing pattern. I personally like to zone out when I mow but you need to pay attention when using a corded mower. This is of course a personal preference but nevertheless something to be considered. My Personal Thoughts on the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog There are some key features that I love about this mower as well as a few things I don’t like. I definitely like that it produces zero emissions. I also like that it is a money saver and energy efficient. I really like that the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog has a 19 inch cutting deck width. This makes it easy to maneuver into places larger mowers can’t. Yet, the cutting deck is wide enough that you won’t be spending all day mowing the lawn. Being able to mulch or bag clippings is another plus. The final feature I like about this mower is easy height adjustment for the operator. Cutting height is also easy to adjust. Now, what I don’t like about the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog. I don’t like corded mowers. I also don’t like corded mowers that can only mow within 100 feet from the outlet. That’s really my only complaint and I realize it’s a personal preference so I can’t be too hard on the Lawn Hog. Now let’s take a look at what owner’s have to say about their purchase and level of satisfaction with the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog. What Owner’s have to say about the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog From nearly 700 customer reviews, the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog received an average 4 star rating out of a possible 5. Some of the comments included: “It is very lightweight and easy to use” and, “No messing around with gas and oil, spark plugs, filters, and all that goes with gas mowers.” The majority of owners are satisfied with their purchase of the Lawn Hog. The common complaints mostly had to do with cord management. Others felt it lacked power and often had to go over the same area twice. All in all, I think the Black & Decker MM875 Lawn Hog is a quality mower as long as you don’t mind cord management.
